Freading eBooks - Information for Libraries

The WYLD Shared Purchases Committee and the Wyoming State Library are excited to announce that we are providing statewide access to a new service from LibraryIdeas, called Freading. Freading offers an attractive supplement to many collections, especially in nonfiction and genre fiction. Notably, works by Wyoming authors Joanne Kennedy and John D. Nesbitt are available in Freading. Freading was made available to the public on February 13th, 2012.

What is Freading?
Freading is a new type of eBooks lending that offers simultaneous access to a wide variety of books from many different publishers. Over 20,000 titles are available and more are added weekly. Freading users log in with their Wyoming library card and PIN and have full access to the entire collection. Each user is alloted a set number of tokens per week. These tokens are used to exchange for the eBook checkouts. Each book ranges in value from one to four tokens, usually based on the publishing date or popularity of the items. Checkouts are for two weeks. Books can be renewed, usually for zero tokens, and can be returned early. Tokens can be accrued durning a month of access, but are reset at the beginning of each month. Since we pay per download, this is a method to keep the use at a manageable level. User will also need to install Adobe Digital Editions and set up an Adobe ID. Adobe handes the digital rights management and allows you to transfer eBooks from the computer to devices, when necessary.
